I too have a GRIGGS, worked as a varnisher before moving to the US in 1906. I'm having some trouble finding info on him and his family and something in your message caught my eye, the curly hair. By any chance is the color red/strawberry blonde/alburn or any other shade of red? We too have one child in each generation with curly ( sometimes VERY curly) reddish hair. Mine is boardering fizzy curly strawberry blonde.
