ROCKBRIDGE - Lewis William "Bill" Griswold, 74, of Rockbridge died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006 at St. John's Hospital.

He was born Oct. 15, 1932, in Hillview, the son of Ernest E. and Margaret King Griswold. He married Barbara Wright.

Mr. Griswold graduated from Greenfield High School in 1950. He farmed and raised livestock in the Rockbridge area.

He served multiple terms on the boards of the Village of Rockbridge, Greenfield School District and Greene County Farm Extension Service. He was a longtime director of the Illinois Rural Electric Cooperative and served on the Board of the Illinois Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives and the National Board of the Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives for 14 years. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Greenfield and its Men's Club.

Survivors: wife, Barbara; two daughters, Cheri (husband, Wayne) Chapman of Greenfield and Rhonda Griswold of Barrington, N.H.; two sons, Greg (wife, Joyce) Griswold of Rockbridge and Steven (wife, Martha) Griswold of Hallieford, Va.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, June Wright and Carole Sue Bettis.

Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Monday, St. Michael Church, Greenfield, the Rev. Henry Schmidt officiating. Burial: Witt Cemetery, Rockbridge.

Shields Memorial Home in Greenfield is in charge of arrangements.
