Sarah (Osborn) Griswold

By Tom Griswold April 25, 2009 at 08:35:11

The parents of Sarah Osborne (wife of Jonathan Griswold) have long been in doubt. Checking Land records in New Haven, CT, I found in Vol. 55, p. 252 which reads in part:

"Know Ye That We Sarah Griswold and Jonathan Griswold both of the Town of Bethlem, Litchfield Co. and State of Connecticut For the Consideration of Fifty two dollars Lawful money received to our full satisfaction of John Peck of the City of New Haven and Co. of New Haven, State aforesaid, do give, grant, bargain, sell and confirm unto the said John Peck and to his heirs and assigns forever, the ΒΌ part of a certain piece or parcel of land containing 18 rods of land lying in the city of N. Haven being part of lot belonging to the heirs of Jonathan Osborn deceas'd of the city of N. Haven, Bounded North on Milford road, East on George street, South on heirs Land belonging to Jonathan Osborn deceas'd, West on heirs Land belonging to Michael Baldwin deceas'd, it being one fourth part of the same be it more or less."

The Jonathan Osborn referenced here descends from Jeremiah3, Jeremiah2, Thomas1 (b. c.1594 Kent, Engl.). Sarah's father Jonathan Osborn m. (1) Ann Sanford with whom he had Sarah (b. 1724). I believe this Sarah d. bef. 1748. Ann Sanford d. July 27, 1734 and Jonathan married July 28, 1748 in Woodbridge, CT (2) Beulah (probably STURDEVANT) who gave birth to daughter Sarah in 1749. Jonathan Osbornd. 1750 (probably late December)
