Re: Christopher Groezinger
Am I confusing your Christopher Groezinger with my great great grandfather Christopher Gretzinger, or were they the same person? If they were not the same person, the fact that they both lived in Mount Holly, Ohio at the same time, and were the SAME AGE is an amazing coincidence.I have found spelling variations of his name as Gretzinger, Gretsinger, and Groezinger.
I visited the Mount Holly cemetery in 1996 and snapped a picture of the gravestone of Christoph Groezinger, which I was convinced was that of my great great grandfather. It shows his age as 56y, 5m, 7d.This is nearly the same information you mentioned in your inquiry.
I found the family in the U. S. census of 1870 under the name Gretzinger. The census was taken on June 8, and the gravestone says that Christoph died June 30.His age in the census is given as 57 which is essentially the same as the age shown on the gravestone.
There are enough similarities to lead me to believe that we are discussing the same person, but I've noticed some differences which perhaps cannot be dismissed:
1.The census shows his wife's name as Catherine, although familty records show her name as Justina.Nowhere have I found the name Lula in connection with my great great grand-father.
2.He brought his family to America from Germany in 1857 and settled in Mount Holly, Ohio.I have no information which could suggest that he ever lived in New Jersey.
He was a blacksmith by trade and held a gold seal from Germany as a master craftsman.
There were five children:Johanna (known as "Hannah"), Christopher, Frederika ("Ricky"), Christianna, and Sarah.Hannah married George Vetter and was my great grandmother.
That's all I know about Christopher Gretzinger. If you believe that he was the same person as your Christopher Groezinger, or if you have information to the contrary, please let me know.e-mail email@example.com.
