Re: DAVID GROGAN ca. 1775 - 1830
John, I hope you're still out there so many years after your post.I'm intrigued that you have Hannah as David Grogan's wife.I came to the same conclusion last year when I broke through our Albert Grogan brick wall to the identity of his parents, David and Hannah Grogan from Greenville Co., SC, and ultimately to David's mother.
I currently believe they had nine children --
Prishia md. David Alexander Cobb
Alfred md. Dorcas (unknown)
Elizabeth md. John Carden
Albert E. md. Mary (unknown)
Mary md. Elijah Thomas Kirksey
David C. md. 1) Melissa (?)Dorsey, 2) Narcissa J. Roddan or Roddair, 3) Telitha E. Brumitt
plus two unidentified boys and one girl.
Many more details can be found in my file for David Grogan at RootsWeb's WorldConnect Project,
How does this compare to your findings?
I believe that David was born ca. 1775 rather than 15 or so years later.
I also believe that the family went to northwest Georgia in the 1820s to take their chances in the Georgia Land Lottery.
I believe this record is David and Hannah's son, Alfred.Note Gwinnett Co., GA. --
Georgia Cherokee Land Lottery, 1832 (Ancestry.com)
Name: Alfred Grogan
District: TENTH DISTRICT, THIRD SECTION, CHEROKEE
Comment: granted previous to the first day of January, 1838
Then compare the 1830 Gwinnett Co., GA, census for Hannah Grogan, and for Alfred Grogan which are identical except for Alfred.
My BIG question remains, however -- is there ANY concrete proof out there for the identity of David's father, the husband of Elizabeth Wolfe, sister of George Wolfe?Until there is proof, I have his father as unknown Grogan in my file
