After reading this "Another family myth" post I am now more certain than ever that there are at least two separate Grogan clans. In all that I know for fact the Grogans discussed in this post are in no way related to the clan of Grogans I am related to through my maternal grandfather. After a decade of researching my Grogan line the only direct line I have found goes back only as far as the 1820's in Ohio. That is where the parents of my ggfather were born according to the 1850 Census. It does not list their names, or date/place of birth or death, but my ggrandfather was James E. Grogan born in ILL in 1842, served in Co.K, 31st IL Inf. during the War of Northern Aggression, and was decorated for galantry at the battle of Ft. Donnelson, TN just before he deserted!!! He died in 1930 in Little Rock, Ark. His nephew is the father of Steve Grogan of New England Patriots fame....
My grandfather, Edmund Grogan, died in 1939 in NYC after lingering for months following a run-in with a trolly car.He also had a "kept woman" in Pittsburgh with whom he fathered a daughter named "Edwina". Upon his death in '39 the "kept woman" kept all of his valuables and death benefit as he was a railroad executive, sent the body in a wooden box back to his wife & family in Little Rock for my grandmother to bury.
If anyone out there knows that story, they know my branch of the Grogran clan....
