Hello Bill,
I have long researched this Grover family line, with somewhat limited results, I'm afraid I have to report. There appears to be more than one Benjamin Grover from CT. I am a descendant of the one reported to have been born on 22 Sep 1850, in Coventry, Tolland, CT, who married Theodora House on 06 May 1783/4, in Coventry. She was supposedly born on 16 Mar 1754, Lebanon Twp., New London, CT. Their son was my ancestor, Abel House Grover, born 06 Jul 1790, Coventry.
Abel married Sarah P. Gray, an American Indian according to several sources I have found, but none had any proof of this claim. She died 25 Oct 1872 in Tompkins County, New York. Some probate papers exist there showing the names of her children, including my ancestor, Caroline, born abt. 1823 and married to George Teeter in 1848.
Do you have a record of our (born in 1750) Benjamin Grover's service in the Revolution? Is he approved by the DAR as a Patriot? Apparently, he is not the Benjamin Grover who died in Owasco in 1857, at the age of 93 or 94, and served in the Rev. War as described in one of the responses to your posting.
Also, do you have a good record showing the children of the Benjamin Grover born in 1850? Does it include Abel Grover, born in 1790?
My family line continues through George Teeter and Caroline (Grover) Teeter's daughter, Mary A. Teeter, who married William M. Hymes, and is reportedly buried in the Sebring Settlement Cemetery in Newfield, NY.
This particular side of my family (Grover, Teeter, and Hymes) has been really difficult to research. Perhaps you have learned something new since your posting?
