Re: Grovesteen in Wisconsin
I don't know whether this is relevant to your particular family, but in New York there was a German family Gravenstein, whose name was sometimes "dutchified" to Grovesteen and similar spellings. There was a Gravenstein family in Philipsburgh before 1751, and another in New York City, baptizing at the Lutheran Church about the same time. I'm probably descended from Margaret Gravenstein who married Abraham See in 1750, moved to Dutchess Co.
I'd be interested in anyone else who knows about the origins of this family.
P.S. there were also Grabensteins, from a later migration. They settled in NY and MI as far as I know.
