Ivana, I was thinking that I had told you a few months ago to check out the book, EIGHTY-FIVE YEARS OF LIFE AND LABOR, by Rev. William B. Grow, of Carbondale, PA.The book was published by the author in 1902, with the Mount Pleasant Press, J. Horace McFarland Company, Harrisburg, PA. It is the story of his life and the lives of his ancestors.Naturally he ties in to John Grow of Ipswich, MA. He is also a lineal descendant of John and Hannah (Lord)Grow's son, Thomas.William's parents were Elisha Grow and Lois Palmer, who were married Dec. 25, 1801, and settled in Pomfret, Windham County, Connecticut. William was one of seventeen children....ten sons and seven daughters.
In February of 1812, came the migration westward. Elisha took his family and goods loaded on sleighs, and settled in Homer, NY, which formed a part of Cortland, NY.William was born here Oct. 11, 1816.
Williams brothers and sister were:Lois, Dilla, Julia, Anne, Sarah, Rhoda,John, Elisha, Elijah, Stillman, Abel, Thomas, W. Philip, Edward and Edwin...several set of twins.
When William was 20 years old, the family moved to Michigan, where their father purchased a farm at Waterford, 7 miles from Pontiac. At some point during this time, William having been heavily exposed to the Presbyterian ministry, became a Baptist preacher and his first church was in Plymouth. It was later that he was called to Carbondale, Pa.
The book is full of history surrounding Carbondale and Franklin, PA, north east part of PA, but not so far removed from Carbon, PA, near Harrisburg. I think you would find it a fascinating biography and you might just find your connection here.It is certainly worth a try.
Ivana, good luck in your search and again, check out JOHN GROW OF IPSWICH, JOHN GROO OF OXFORD, by Davis, 1913 (they are proven now to all be one and the same family...not two), also check THE HISTORY OF WOODSTOCK FAMILIES IN CONNECTICUT, Vol. 6, by Clarence Winthrop Bowen. There is one huge section on the Grow's, all descendants of John Grow and Hannah Lord, of Ipswich, MA.
