My great-great grandfather was John William Guest I. He was born in England (Staffordshire, I think) circa 1830. At some point he came to America. I'm not sure when he arrived but I think it was about 1850. At first he settled in Ohio and worked as a miner.
He met and married a woman named Elizabeth Tracy (a Quaker, I think). They had at least two children I know of--John William II and Samuel. About 1860 the family sailed around the Horn and came to California--Mariposa County. He worked as a quartz miner until his death in November 1889.
I need help tracking his English heritage and any family he may have left behind in Ohio. Thanks.
