Grandma Gugins Diary
I came upon my grandmother’s handwritten account of her life from 1875 to 1945.(I can fill in most of our descendants from that date forward if we find we are indeed related.).It sounds like we might be sharing the same family tree. I’m now 59 years old, and living in Washington State. My name is Sharon Ann Brockerman-Benson. (now Prather)My mother was Violet Ann DeBolt, who was the daughter of Mary Josephine Gugins, (my grandmother).
My grandmother was Mary Ann Gugins of Ontario Canada. Born January 29th, 1875 in Agolo, Simco County, Ontario Canada. She died in 1951 at the age of 72.Her parents were James T. Gugins and Sarah Jane Langley.(my paternal G Grandparents). On the maternal side were my great-grand parents Simon and Mary Langley, who were the parents of Mary, (my grandmother) Maggie, Susan, Julia, Emma, Ellen, Fena, Sarah Jane, Simon, Thomas, John, Charles and Patrick Langley.
Grandma was one of seven surviving children. Their names were: Amelia Jane, born in St, Vincent Gray County, Ontario on November 7th, 1877, formerly the wife of A. St. Germain. (widowed and later married to Ernest Tinkler. Next was Anna Louisa, born in Meaford, Gray County Ontario on January 8th 1880. Anna married Martin (Mark) B. Cross. Then came Emma Sarah Harriet, born in Pickford, Chippawa County, Michigan on June 2nd, 1883. Former wife of William Penegor, (deceased). She remarried William J. Haggerty. Next was Lottie Mabel, born in Marquette Township, Macac County Michigan on July 4th 1885 and married to John Kaiser. Alena May Guguins, born in Marquette Township, Macnac County Michigan on april 29th, 1890 who married Ira Colbry. The only son born to James Tl Gugins was James Melvin Gugins, born in Marquette Township, Macnac County, Michigan on October 8tyh 1887.
My Grandma’s paternal grandparents were Joseph Gugins and Mary Josephine Gugins who were the parents of George, Joseph, James, Rose Jane, Mary Ann and Sarah Harriet. All were from Ontario Province, Canada.
My grandmother, Mary Ann Gugins married my grandfather Esley DeBolt on August 22, 1893 in the Catholic Church in Sault St. Marie also called The “Soo” . this was, I believe, the Lake Superior area of Michigan. The family then began moving west, and finally settled in Port Angeles Washington about 1910.
Mary Josephine Gugins (married to Esley Carlon DeBolt) was my grandmother. She was born January 29, 1875 in Agolo, Simco County, Ontario Canada. She was the oldest of seven living children born to Sarah Jane Langley and James T. Gugins. James T. was born in Ontario Canada in 1855 and died at the age of 73 on October 5, 1928. Sarah Jane was born in Ontario in 1850 and died October 14, 1916. Mary Ann was aunt to Mary Josephine Gugins.
Mary Josephine Gugins had the following siblings: Amelia Jane, born in St. Vicent Gray County, Ontario, November 7, 1877, formerly the wife of A. St. Germain. She later married Earnest Tinkler. Anna Louisa, born in meaford, Gray County, Ontario, January 8, 1880 who married Martin B. Cross. Emma Sarah Harriet, born in Picford, Chippawa County, Michigan on June 2, 1883 formerly the wife of William Penegor (deceased) then she married William J. Haggerty. Lottie Mabel, born Marquette Township, Macac County Michigan on July 4th, 1885 who married John Kaiser. Alena May, born in Marquette Township, Macnac County Michigan April 29, 1890 who married Ira Colbry. James Melvin, born Marquette Township Macnac County, Michigan on October 8, 1887.
Mary Josephine Gugins Father's side of the family consisted of her grandparents, Joseph Gugins and Mary Gugins, who were the parents of George, Joseph, James (James was my GG Grandfather and father of my grandma Mary), Rose Jane, Mary Ann and Sarah Harriet Gugins.
Perhaps this will fill in some more gaps for the Gugins family tree?
