I know this is a long shot - but looking to fill in some missing pieces. My mother was a Gilfoil from Louisiana. Our Gilfoil relatives still live there. The spelling of the name was changed from Guilfoyle a few generations ago.It is my understanding that my great-great-grandfather was one of several brothers who came to the US in the early 1800's from the Offaly/Tipperary area (Moneygall) of Ireland. They came to the northern US and went to the mid-west.My ancestor settled in the south - in Louisiana, starting the Omega Plantation. When the Civil War came, all contact with the northern relatives was lost.I'd like to find others who have heard similar versions of this story and hopefully rebuild the family's connections.
