There is a Gum/Gumm DNA study set up at the company "Family Tree DNA".So far there is no one in the study, but we are going to submit my husband's DNA for a 37-marker test. The cost when a study has been set up, is currently $149 for the 37 marker Y-chromosome test which should give some good info as more participants join the study. From talking with various knowledgeable people at genealogy conferences, they recommend Family Tree DNA as it seems to have the largest data base which is what is desired for comparisons. The least expensive is $99 for the basic. They keep the samples for 25 years and one can decide to have additional markers tested in the future. We know my husband is descended from Roger Gum thru the female line, but feel quite confident that he is also a descendant thru the male line. However, we haven't shown this via the records yet.We hope to gain more information to prove this as more Roger Gum descendants join this program.
