Thanks for details on your husband's proposed DNA test. I looked at the Family Tree DNA Website but they do not appear to give outsiders the opportunity to add their DNA results to the Index. I used Ancestry.com and my results are viewable there. I have also added them to the Sorenson SMGF Y Chromosome Index which has over 100,000 entries. I would be interested to see how your husband's DNA matches up to mine as well as the other close matches. On the SMGF index there are several Gums from WV that have 24/24 matches and on Ancestry I have one match that has a MRCA of only three generations. It is worth noting that the WV Gums are the only ones that do closely match mine. For example, in Hawaii, the connection is very distant and possibly comes from China. Finally, when matching on DNA only, the Scandinavian families rank high such as the Johannesons from Norway matching 21/24 markers. One gets the feeling that surnames are not a very reliable connecting link when tracing ones pedigree! I can highly recommend the book "Trace your roots with DNA" by Megan Smolenyak Smolenyak and Ann Turner for anyone thinking of using DNA to help them.
