Hi Michelle, I have followed my paper trail back to a Roger Gum who was born in Seend, Wiltshire, England in year 1721. he was married, first to Sarah Biggs and then to Hannah Jones. I descend from the second marriage. I believe that Roger was the son of Joseph Gum/Mary Barrat but the Parish Register pages are missing for those years. Joseph b1686, was the son of Roger Gum = Ann (His second wife). There were two children from that marriage. All of these people were born in Seend and can be found in the Seend PRs.(Can be seen on the LDS film 943579). You ask about which country they came from. Well all of them were from England and my problem is that I have been unable to find anyone in my line that has emigrated to America. Using Ancestry.com I have found a very close DNA match in a Jason Robert Gum of WV in USA so someone must have made it whatever the paper trail shows. I think that my proposed connection to Roger Gum/Ann could be right and that would open up many possibilities for a migrant from all the parallel lines. I have already said that my DNA is thought to come from Scandinavia and I get fairly close matches to people from that region with names like Johannesson. Where did the name Gum go or come from? I hope that covers your questions and that you are not too confused by the above. Has your husband done his DNA yet?
