Hi Beverley
James did not have a Will; he died intestate. Elisha Hawkins was appointed as Administrator. Here are my research notes for James which include many updates since my original 2003 message.

Union Co. Dist SC aged 76, sol was b in 1756 in Hanover Co. VA, he
lived in Caswell Co. NC at enl & about 1785 moved to Union Dist SC."

22 January 1779 Caswell Co. NC William and James GUTHRIE entered a
request for 250 acres on Adams Creek. This land included the
improvements where Garrett Guthrie lived. On 28 July 1779 they were
granted title to this land. There is an additional record of land
acquisition by William and James. 13 October 1783 From Caswell Co.,
Deed Book B. William Guthrie and James Guthrie 250 A. on Adams Creek

GUTHRIE, and Nancy C GUTHRIE of the state and district aforesaid
having given and granted and by these present do give and
grant unto the said Polly P Teagle, Absolom Guthrie, Elizabeth
P. Hawkins, Mourning P. and Nancy C. Guthrie their heirs
a deed and assign the tract of land whereon I now bode and
live and being in Union District and state afore said bounded by land

deed above and latter is date that Elisha HAWKINS, his son-in-law was
made Administrator of James' estate. October 1837 Personal Property
was appraised at $225.39 , appraised by Thos. A.CARLISLE, W. N. GLENN
and Wm & James ROGERS. Sale of property also done in Oct 1837 totaling
$295.70.-Jan 1840 $171.45 was available for distribution.Aug 1839
J.M. GUTHRIE rec'd $11.39 with add'l bal. shown due him in 1847; Sep
1842 $19.05 was paid to each of Elisha HAWKINS (wife Eliz.), Morning
P. GUTHRIE, N. TEAGLE, N.C. GUTTERIE, Absalom GUTTERIE; and to 3 of
Garret GUTHRIE's children (or in-laws) J.M. GUTHRIE, David TURNER, N.
RHOADS and wife Margaret and mentions children Jackson and William who
were not paid yet..
16 Mar 1847- Elisha Hawkins does an accounting to the courts (last
date in the papers) that shows amounts still due to Benjamin GUTHRIE,
Robert GUTHRIE and Jas. M. GUTHRIE (Amounts are the same as the others
noted in earlier deed and probate so appears these were also children
of James.)
