The following is posted on Rootsweb:
ID: I615574876
Name: Beverly B GUTHREY
Given Name: Beverly B
Surname: Guthrey
Sex: M
Birth: in VA, Halifax County
Father: Samuel GUTHREY b: 1773 in VA
Mother: Betty BARROWS b: in VA, Halifax County
If this is the correct, Beverly B. Guthrie, then Samuel Guthrie, as noted, is the father and Samuel was the son of Travis Guthrie, the first Guthrie of the surname noted in the Halifax Co., VA. records. The will of Travis Guthrie is recorded in the Halifax Co., VA. records with a date of 1818, as I recall.
In the Halifax Co., VA. Personal Property Tax Lists, Samuel
Guthrie is last listed in the 1833 Northern District (and that's where he should be as Travis Guthrie settled in the Northern District). Elizabeth Guthrie is listed as a head-of-household in the listings 1834 -1836 so Samuel was likely deceased at that time. In 1837, both Elizabeth and Beverly B. are listed as heads-of-household and that continues through 1843. In the 1844 listing, neither of them are listed. In 1845-1860, a Beverly is listed but is not listed after 1860 so that must be the time he moved away. There's a second Beverly B. Guthrie who married Emaline Clay in Halifax Co., VA. in 1852 and the one who continues to be listed (1845 and beyond) on the tax rolls must be a relative since it appears the first Beverly was gone about 1844 or so. I'm not positive I've got the sequences correct but it should, at least, give you some ammunition for the hunt!
