ETHEL VESCELIUS AUSTEN m HERBERT HAAS/Alameda,Ca
I am writing the first book from the American point of view about 19th century rotunda panoramas. These were the biggest paintings in the world,50 x 400=20,000 square feet, housed in their own rotundas which were 16-sided polygons. Chicago in 1893 had 6 panorama companies and 6 panorama rotundas Ethel Vescelius Austen was daughter of Edward James Austen (1850-1930) , panorama artist for Reed & Gross of Chicago, panorama artist for Emmett W. McConnell, and his own production company. Ethel was born in Kimberly, South Africa. The story of how Austen found the three Vescelius singing sisters is recorded in the book YANKEE GIRLS IN ZULULAND. And Ethel is the subject of a children's book illustrated by E.J.Austen,etc. INFO TO SHARE
