Ferdinand HABICH & Julia Appelmann -Hess
Researching the family of Ferdinand HABICH & Julia APPELMANN ca 1800's - 1900's Manhattan, NYC.
Ferdinand was born in February of 1842 and may be the Ferdinand Georg Friederich Carl HABICH that was christened on March 2, 1842 at Stadtpfarrei Evangelisch, Darmstadt, Starkenburg, Hessen, son of Ludwig Heinrich Simon HABICH and Catharine Margaretha NAGEL.
Ferdinand and Julia was listed in the 1880 NYC census as being from Hessen.Children listed, Louis (Ludwig on his birth certificate), Henry, Charles and Nellie (Mabel in the 1900 census).
In the 1900 census Ferdinand is listed as Friederick HABICH. He and Julia had 9 children, but only 4 of them were alive in 1900.According to his naturalization index card he became a naturalized citizen on October 18, 1875.Louis UNGER was listed as his sponsor.Amongst the church records I found in Darmstadt for the Habiches, there was a marriage of a Habich female to a Ludwig UMBER.
I descend from Ferdinand and Julia's son Ludwig "Louis" HABICH.He was born August 12, 1871 in the lower east side of NYC.He married Heloise WILLIOT on September 23, 1896 in NYC.Henry HABICH was one of their witnesses.Louis and Heloise were divorced by June 30, 1900.Only one child, Walter Eugene HABICH, my grandfather born June 28, 1897.Walter never had any contact with his father or his father's family after that.
Would love to find out if Louis ever remarried and had other children.
