The info. I have came from mostly came from Johnie and Mary's children (Eva Included). When I talked to Eva she told me that Johnie's Dad was a Lewis/Louis hackworth but she did not know his mom.Johnies mom died when he was about 2 years old and his dad died when he was about 6 years old.She then told me he was raised by a George W. Crace and Lula Fletcher.
Bare with me there is quite a bit of info.
I have done some research (but still need to send for certficates) and found that in the Floyd County Kentucky Marriage bond Books 4,5,6,7 1866-1893 page 108 their was a George Spradlin age 22 that married a Mary Hackworth age 24 in the home of a Lewis Hackworth on 3 April 1891.
In the 1900 Magoffin Co. KY census p. 68 #531 Sarilda Crace (widow of Henry Crace) has in her household John Hackworth boarder B. Oct 1892 7 years old, also George Spradlin house carpenter, boarded b. Jul 1868 31 years old Widowed.I beleive when Johnies parents died the Spradlins took him in but when Mary died they ended up at the Crace house.
George W Crace was Henry and Sarilda's son.
I do not know what happened to George Spradlin after the 1900 census.Johnie married Mary Brown daughter of Sherman and Sallie Brown on 16 Apr. 1915.They are listed in the 1920 Magoffin Co.Ky census.
It was told to me from their sonthat Johnie was working in a coal mine (Mary was with him)and there was some kind of accident. He was carried home and put on a cot beside the door and he died 3 days later. I am not sure which coal mine it was and I haven't found a newspaper article yet.Johnie died in 1934.He is buried in the Sherman Brown cemt. Ivyton, KY 1 mile up Drybread near Salyersville.
Mary did laundry for area folks to support her children.later around 1940 she moved to Indiana then Michigan then back to Indiana. She married twice that I am aware of the first in Michigan I am not sure who and the last to Ben Hatton. They are both buried in the Swank Cemt. near N. Manchester IN.Some of the children are buried there. There is only one living child of John and Mary but I haven't been in contact with her.
I also have obits of their children if interested.I am planning a trip to the Ft. Wayne library soon where I hope to be able to gather more info. to post.
If any one has any info. to share on this thank you in advance.
