Samuel Hadley of Amesbury, MA
I have hit a brick wall with research of my 6th great grandfather's ancestry. His name was Philip Cole. His wife's name was Mary and they raised their children in Amesbury between 1698 and 1712.With the generous assistance of a distant relative I have recently come across a copy of a deed from 1714 where Philip sells one third of a 40 acre lot at Amesbury to an Ephraim Davis of Haverhill.More information supplied in this deed states that Philip originally acquired this property in 1707 from "my honored father, Samuel Hadly".Samuel was obviously Philip's father-in-law making Mary's maiden name Hadley. Many children of Samuel's marriage to Jane Martin are recorded but none are named Mary. The details of Samuel and Jane's marriage are shown in various sources as Aug 11, 1676 in Amesbury but I cannot verify either that date or the location of their marriage.I also cannot locate the date or location of Philip and Mary Cole's marriage.
One other thing I have come across is that the 40 acre parcel is also mentioned in Samuel Page Hadley's book published in 1887.It refers to a portion of this parcel being sold to another son-in-law, Ephraim Pemberton. This land was originally purchased by Samuel from Joseph Peasley.
Can someone please fill in more details of this story for me?
