Hi Cathy,
We were lucky to have an aunt, Marina Hafner Girsch, who traveled from Chicago to St. Gallen in the 1950s and got to know her second and third cousins. She continued to correspond with them until her death in the 1990s and developed a family tree going back into the 1700s.It's full of Josefs, Johanns, and Antons, but no Charles, William (or Wilhelm), or Ulrich. She also brought back a stained glass replica of what was said to be a coat of arms of the medieval Hafners of the area.It portrays a large three legged pot.As you may know "hafner" is a Bavarian and Swiss dialect word for "potter."
