My "Henry" was born in New York in 1780. Since reading and writing weren't "required" the spellings came down to the individual. Some that moved away from their families were at a loss as to how to continue the spelling. Our descendants still maintain different spellings. Even within families some spelled it differently to avoid connection with a sibling.
Just thought I might ask about yours. The change might have happened before your "Henry" was born. Henry's descendants on my side moved to California.
