Mary Allan Halbur obituary submitted

Sister Mary Allan Halbur, 96, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, Rochester, MN, died at Assisi Heights on Tuesday, February 3, 2009.

Born Magdalene Anna Halbur on June 25, 1912 in Iona, MN, Sister Allan entered the Sisters of Saint Francis in 1932 from St. Columba Parish, Iona, and made vows in 1934.Sister grew up on a farm near Iona where she learned early the basic skills of housekeeping.These skills served her well during thirty-seven years of ministry as a housekeeper in various locations: Currie, Lake City, Winona, Sleepy Eye, and Rochester, MN as well as Portsmouth, OH, Norfolk, NE, and Denver, CO.Sister Allan moved to Assisi Heights in 1979 where she assisted with crafts and activities for Sisters in Health Care before her retirement in 1984.Sister was known as one who enjoyed reading, who reached out to others with care and was faithful to daily prayer.

Sister Allan had eleven siblings, two of whom survive; Lawrence (Lorraine) Halbur of Slayton, MN and Elizabeth Kruse of Fort Atkinson, IA.She is also survivied by nieces and nephews as well as the members of her Religious Congregation, the Sisters of Saint Francis, with whom she shared life for 76 years.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, February 6, 2009 at 11:00 in the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes, Assisi Heights, Rochester.
