On Sep 20, 1785, a John Haldeman (1753-1832) purchased one half of a 383+ acre tract in Donegal Township, Lancaster County, PA.By court order, John became full owner of part of this tract which became known as Locust Grove.
When John transferred the property to his son Henry Haldeman (1787-1849) in 1813, it included a grist mill, saw mill, distillery and two-story stone mansion today known as the Haldeman Mansion. The mansion sits on a rise overlooking the mouth of Conoy Creek, where it enters in to the Susquehanna River.Subsequent owners included Cyrus S. Haldeman (1825-1892) and Horace Haldeman (1820-1883), respectively.
