Hi folks..
Guess we are all in the same boat, huh? Maybe we each other's missing lineage link....
My grandfather was Harvey Ernest Hale..according to his death cert. he was born sept. 2, 1911 in Canton, TX to a Sam Hale and a Lula Burnett (sp?).Sam Hale is supposed to have had a brother name of John Hale and he had 3 children, Jeff, Ida and ?Arville.Sam Hale's children were my grandfather, Harvey Ernest and a younger son Edgar Carol Hale.No records so far in any of these name searches.
like you it stops at my grandfather.
Today I e-mailed the Cherokee gen-site with as much info as i had...am hoping for any sort of response from them and will post it here asap..
Also, the rumor of Indian lineage is with my family.
What I have been told is that when Lula, my grandfather's mother re-married ( my grandfather's father, Sam, died when my grandpa was only 6 years of age) a man named Ransom F. Ashford {( they had two daughter's..Dalton Agnes Ashford and Cleo ? Ashford..Cleo died around 14 years of age when she got her skirt caught in the wheels of my grandfather's cousin Jeff's car while riding on the back)}
Ransom felt it was unfashionable at that time to be of Indian blood and the real records were ( lost? ).
When Grampa was suffering from Alzheimer's he relived a day with my father present ... I'll try to describe it to you...
" Hey, (so-n-so , my dad) get down behind that damned rock, the big one! Hell!! they shot (so-n-so #2) ..I think he's dead... We gotta get this shine thru... "and then it goes on with more ....
so... grampa apparently ran moonshine and we do not know what age but for some reason or another it has been the collective belief it was when he was very young ( before age 14 yrs.).
Why am I telling you all this?I don't even know!
I'm thnking maybe gramps left home at an early age though I know my father and his siblings were close to their step-grandfather Ransom Ashford and all have spoken of him with fond and loving memory...they liked him more than Lula.!.
I'll hushup here.Just thought I'd share what I've got and see if it helps.
One more thing ... does anyone have an Alabama or Mississippi Patterson (female) in their ancestry?somehow we have a paper that lists a Nickulas or Nikulas Hale m. to an Alabama Virginia Patterson or Mississippi Alabama Patterson, Mississippi Virginia Patterson ( you get my drift) as Sam Hale's parents or grandparents.
Hope to hear from you!
Beth Ann Hale
