Hello Paula, I possibly have relations in the North East. I take my family back to 1801 and the name Logan & Halfpenny in Coylton, Ayrshire. Halfpenny line was James Halfpenny, Irishman, Hawker, labourer, born around 1811. No birth record.Have traced Halfpennies in Ortadown with remarkable physical similarities.
My father still has folk memoties of a branch of the family in the North East. His father James abandone his wife Mary McLaughlin/McLachlan in Glasgow in 1879.She had two children Patrick, my grandfather, John and a daughter Rosemary( illegitimate) who was not a Halfpenny by blood.
There is a well known trditional northumbrian pipe tune called Holey Halfpenny about a Hawker in the Northeast.
I have a considerable family tree on cd if you are interested.

Shaun Halfpenny
