Circa 1905-10 photo of Halvorsen brothers & half brother, Cannon Falls, MN

By Paul Peterson February 27, 2012 at 09:54:54

I purchased the subject undated group portrait of seven young men taken by Austinson Art Studio, Cannon Falls, MN.It is identified on the back of the mount:

"L To R 1 AUGUST 2 HANS 3 HENRY 4-Iver Ohnstad
FRONT L-R 1 MARTIN 2 SEVERT 3 ANDREW
HALVORSEN
BROTHERS
& Iver Ohstad 1/2 brother

all pas brothers
all over 6 foot

Iver Ohnstad"

The statement "all pas brothers all over 6 foot" is written in red ink and there is a red "X" on the print to the far right in the back row next to Iver's head.

The only possible candidate for this Halvorsen family that I see is one appearing in a Public Member Tree posted on ancestry.com and that is listed in the 1875 and 1885 Minnesota Territorial and State Censuses for Canton Township, Fillmore Co., MN; and the 1900, 1910, and 1920 U.S. Censuses for Canton Township, Fillmore Co., MN.These include MN-born sons Martin, Henry, Hans Peter, and Andreas/Andrew of Norwegian-born Severt/Syvert Halvorsen (1847-1925), but do not account for the other names recorded on the photo, nor can I find a likely candidate for Iver Ohnstad in the census data.
