George Hamberger, Cleveland, Ohio
I am searching for ancestors & siblings of my grandfather, George Hamberger (1895-1983).
After his mother Maria (?) died, George (7 years old) & his sister Ida (?) 10 years old were placed in The Children’s Industrial Home in Cleveland, Ohio in August 1902.
The home was later moved & renamed The Children’s Aid Society – School & Home. The orphanage burned & his records were lost, so we have never been able to find info on his father, mother, sister, etc.
His father was a Brewer in Cleveland.
Grandpa was placed in a foster home in LaGrange/Grafton, Ohio at the age of 9.
His sister was placed in a foster home, but returned to the orphanage “when the woman of the house fell ill.” She was placed in another foster home in Norwalk, OH, but was returned “because she was too young to do the work expected of her.” We believe that she then was placed in the Sisters (later became House) of the Good Shepherd in Cleveland in July 1908. That is the last we have found of her.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
