Re: William Oliver Hamilton, Cherokee County, AL
I have a question regarding "William Oliver Hamilton." I am researching this family for a friend, and I have yet to find any documentation giving his middle name as "Oliver." In 1850 census for Seminole, Chattooga, GA, he is "Wm. Hamilton." In 1860 census for Cherokee County, AL, he is "Wm. M. Hamilton." In 1870 in Cherokee County he is "Wm. Hamilton." In 1880 still in Cherokee County, he is "William Hamilton." In the 1866 Alabama State census, he is "William Hamilton." His tombstone (Find A Grave Memorial # 45333831) only shows "William Hamilton." The Alabama Estate Files show:
Name: William Hamilton
File Name: William Hamilton
Event Type: Probate
Event Place: Cherokee County, Alabama
Event Year: 1887
Can someone please tell me from where the name "William OLIVER Hamilton" came? And is there documentation to this effect? He was the husband of Caroline Catherine or Catherine Caroline Allison. Went from North Carolina to Chattooga County, Georgia, to Cherokee County, Alabama. Appreciate all responses!
