James Hammond (Hammon)
Hello to all,
I am tracing the history of James Hammond (also Hammon and Hammons) who was transported as a convict to New South Wales on the "Bussorah Merchant" in 1828.He came from around Teynham in England.
In NSW, he married Frances (Fanny) Tully, who arrived from Galway, Ireland on the "Isabella" in 1840.They prospered and had many children.
Some recollections of the family written (I think) about 1890 say that the Hammond family in England were descended from a French family named Hamon, in the 1600s.
I would much appreciate any suggestions or information.
Thanks,
Mike
