Theodore E. Hancock, born 30 May 1847 in Granby, Oswego Co., NY, was a descendent on his maternal side from Roger Williams of Rhode Island.His paternal relatives were also from R.I.About 1790 his father emigrated from RI to Granby.In 1871 he graduated from Falley Seminary in Fulton, NY.Then he studied law in New York City where he attended the Columbia Law School until 1873 when he was admitted to the bar.He removed to syracuse, Onondaga Co., NY and began his practice of law. Ib 1880 he was elected District Attorney of Onondaga County on the Republican ticket. In 1894 he was elected Attorney General of New York State. In 1899 he was nominated by the Republicans to run for Mayor of Syracuse.Longer biography published in Evening Herald 11 Oct. 1899.
