Jane Adams was married to John McElwee. John died in 1777 in Mecklenburg Co. N.C. Jane Adams and all of her children that were living with her in 1782 moved to Lincoln Co., Kentucky. Her one son David moved to Clay Co., Mo. in 1820 and he was married to Mary Howdeshell. I have found David in Warren Co, ,Mo. in 1812. Mary Howdeshell was born in 1766 and died at the age of 46 in 1812. Mary Howdeshell's brother was Joseph Howdeshell born 1769 and married Mary Adams in 1793.Some of Jane Adams McElwees children were: Martha Ann b. c. 1760 married to James Gilmore in Lincoln Co., Ky on July 6,1782. Janet "Jane" married to William McMurray on Dec. 30,1790 in Lincoln Co.,Ky.. Margaret married Alexander Crawford on Jan. 21,1787 in Lincoln Co.,Ky. Jane Adams McElwee probably had two other sons, William and James. In 1821 Indians attacked David McElwees home in Clay Co., Mo. David and his daughter Margaret who later would marry John Howdeshell were in Tennesse visiting. Davids son William had his finger cut off. David wrote out a will in 1833 but there is information that says he died in California. Jane Adams had a brother Thomas Adams who died in 1806 unmarried in Pulasky Co., Ky. I have seen Jane Adams McElwees father name as John but I have no prove of this. Any information on Jane Adams would be greatly appreciated, Thank you and Happy Hunting !!
