I stumbled upon a short note in my family tree regarding Reuben Hankinson which reads
"A certificate issued by his commanding officer: Dated Digby 10th August 1821 "I do hereby certify that Ensign Reuben Hankinson of His Majesty's late 1st Bn of New Jersey Volunteers, joined the British Army the first day of September, 1776. Enlisted with me as a Sergeant and lived a considerable time in that capacity - then a Sgt Major, till sometime in August 1780 - Ensign Reuben Hankinson as there was a vacancy and served as an Ensign some time before he received his Commission in that Battalion until he was disbanded - 1783 - he served seven years, one month and eight days in said Ist Bn NJ Volunteers and found that he was a good and faithful Sergeant and a faithful and attentive Sergeant Major and always behaved himself as a good officer till disbanded."
I was wondering which commanding officer was responsible for writing this and where I might be able to obtain a copy? Any help would be appreciated.
