Re: Patrick Hanlin/Hanlon Revolutionary War Pension

The info I have for "our" James Hanlon is born 1754; died 3 Jan 1829.Wife was Elizabeth -- unknown maiden name.His first child, Sarah, was born 12 Sept 1797 in Franklin County, PA.It is believed he stayed at home and cared for his aging parents and did not marry until older than most men did during that time. Patrick's first child, Nelly, was born in 1779 in Harrison County, VA (now WV). He bought property on Booths Creek and Lost Run from James Moline in the spring of 1799.In the fall of 1808 he sold that land to Elizabeth Williamson and moved to Tyler County where he received 400 acres of land for his services in the Rev. War.This land was located on Sugartree Creek in Mead Township.In 1823 he sold that land and moved to Ludlow Township, Washington County, Ohio where he died on 28 Feb 1826.There is a discrepancy in the year Patrick was born so I don't know if he was the older or younger brother.His official Rev. War marker has 1737, but I can't help but wonder if someone didn't mistake a 5 for a 3 since 1757 seems more like it.He was married in 1778 which would have made him 21, but then if he married a widow, he may have been 41 and these Hanlon guys just did not marry young.Been trying to figure this one out for more than 30 years and just can't find anything that gives his age at marriage or death.In my notes I have that Margaret was born in 1757--don't know where I got that.

Another Hanlon researcher shared with me his findings that the father of Col. James Chambers (in whose home Patrick and Margaret were married) was from Ireland and made several trips back there to recruit settlers for his lands in the Franklin County area.This came from a history of Franklin County, PA.Patrick served in Col. Chambers' regiment.Another source states Col. Butler was commander of Patrick's regiment.This source also states Patrick was wounded in the battles of Brandywine and Paoli.Sorry can't be more helpful right now.
