Frank- My wife is a descendent of the York County Hansfords.Below is an excerpt I found on Captain Thomas Hansfords home which has taken possession of by Gov Berkeley in 1676 for his role in Bacons Rebellion and later called Halfway Plantation or Halfway House. Most of the originally settled areas of York County have been swallowed into the Naval Weapons Station and are inaccessible or no longer exist.
"The house of John Hansford (Father of Thomas) was called 'Halfway Plantation' and was 1/2 way between Williamsburg (Middle Plantation) and Yorktown. The house was used as the Offices' Club for The Naval Weapons Station until 1929 when it burned.I have an etching of it. Many years ago by special permission my family and I visited the site which is now called "The Hole" as nothing remains but the basement and a few tombstones which have have long ago sucken into the grown. It is "top security."
