Harbourne family in the Birmingham area
Hi all. My name is Rodney Francis Harbourne. I live in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. I am researching the Harbourne family in Australia since the first family member, James Harbourne, arrived here in 1848 as a convict (exile)and was given a Ticket of Leave to work for local land holders in the early days of the colony. I have traced all of his ancestors throughout Australia. My problem is that he was born to a single woman in Birmingham, England on 19 Feb 1829 and baptised on 12 May 1829 in the parish of St. Phillips, Birmingham. His mother's name was Elizabeth Harborne. James was given a middle name when born which indicates he may have been brought up under a Bastardy Bond where the father's surname is given as the middle name. The middle name was Jeffries. I have checked the births in the parish Elizabeth was born and found a James Jeffries born in the same year and same parish as Elizabeth. That is as close as I have gone to making a connection.
I would be interested in hearing from anyone tracing the Harbo(u)rne family in and around Birmingham, England to see if can find more about Elizabeth. I have all the family tree for Australia if a connection can be found.
Rod & Joan Harbourne
