if the name had two 'n's as in Hardmann, then I would suspect German.But the name is registered in Suffolk County, England in the 12th century.In the English way of names, Hardyman means "servant of Hardy" and Hardy means "so bold".The name was changed to Hardeman in Virginia colony.Look at this forum messages #38 and 63.
