Re: Hare or Clayton Co. IA; Schoharie, NY
I do not have any of the people listed in my family that you mention.I have never been able to tie my Nicholas Hare to any of the other Hares in Onondaga, Herkimer or Schoharie Cos.I have been able to expand the family some.
Nicholas Hare and Mary Rice had the following known children:
David (1821-1862) m. Helen Hyde
James B. (1824-1908) m1. Betsey olmstead, m2. Louisa Barbara Clapsaddle Olmstead
Ovid (1829-1903) m. Charlotte French
Marenda (1836-1918) m. Fredrick Clapsaddle
The boys were all born in NY, Marenda in Ont.
Ihave not found a link to the Henry Hare in the Shabbona Twp, DeKalb Co. 1850 census. He was born in 1810 in NY and is married to Aubilla (sp?) with 2 children, Mary and Martha.Henry and his wife disappear before the 1860 census but the girls appear to be living with members of the Town family.I suspect that Aubilla(?) was a Town.I also suspect that both Henry and Aubilla died before 1860.
The family lived in Onondaga Co., NY then in Houghton, Ont. in 1836 and in Coventry, Summit Co., OH in 1840.They moved to DeKalb Co., IL in 1845.
David died from wounds or illness associated with the CW, Myron never married and livid in IL, IA and MN.Ovid moved to Butler Co., IA, then Storm Lake, IA and finally to LA.James also moved to Butler Co., IA.Marenda remained in DeKalb Co. all her life although several of her children were born in Will Co., IL for some reason.
