Mary md. 2nd, John Gay Clagett, 1853, Kentucky
I am not researching this family, just entering information from a book "John Henry Clagett" by James P. Cornette.
"John Gay Clagett was born to Rebecca Gay Clagett and Charles Clageee. That son was, in 1856, to become the father of John Henry Clagett."
"John Gay Clagett lived and worked on his father's farm (Grayson County, KY)until his twenty-sixth year.In 1846 he pruchased a tract of land about two miles north of Leitchfield and began life for himself as a farmer. On November 10 of that year he married Nancy Rice, daughter of David and Sallie Rice of Green County.Nancy Rice Clagett died in 1851.On June 23, 1853, John Gay Clagett married Mrs. Mary J. Barnes, daughter of Moses Harrel, of Breckenridge County.Seven children were born to them between 1854 and 1867, one of whom, Rebecca, died while a girl.In 1852 John Gay Clagett sold his farm and opened a general merchandise store at Winchell's Mills, on Rough Creek. He remained in business there for six years and then bought a 240-acre farm on Caney Creek about twelve miles southwest of Leitchfield and four miles northeast of Caneyville."I did not copy further information.
In the foreword of the book - "John Henry Clagett was born in Grayson County, Kentucky, November 4, 1856, and died in Bowling Green, Kentucky, March 19, 1937."(There is more here and elsewhere in the book on this man.)
There is further information on them, which I did not copy.
