Stephen Harry

By Laura Jenkins November 10, 2010 at 03:02:07

I am trying to topple a HUGE brick wall. I can't trace the Harry side of my family past Stephen Harry, born in Pennsylvania Feb 4, 1820, died in Williams County, Ohio Nov. 14 1864. He married Margaret Moyer (b. Dec 2 1830) in Stark County, Ohio on Sep 23, 1847. They had a son, Theodore Finley Harry (my great-grandfather) on Jun 26, 1848 in Williams, OH. Sadly, Margaret died Jul 8, 1848, probably from complications of childbirth.
Stephen remarried Apr. 12 1849 to Harriet Poole in Ohio. They had three children: James P (b 1851), William W (b 1855). and Barbara N. (b. 1861). But Stephen died on Nov 14 1864 at the age of 44. I don't know what he died of.
I don't have any record of where in PA Stephen Harry was born, nor do I have the name of his parents. I don't have a record of when he moved to Ohio, but it had to be close to his first marriage date. I had one record that said the Harrys might have been "of Pennsylvania Dutch (German) descent" but have found nothing else to substantiate this. I also have found evidence that the Harrys were of Welsh descent. I traced two other Stephen Harrys in PA, one is Stephen C. and the other Stephen A., but they both remained in PA after my Stephen was long gone to Ohio.
Stephen's son Theodore lived a long full life. He kept moving west, eventually ending up in Portland, OR. He married Elvaretta Charlton in Michigan, they had four sons and a daughter. The daughter was Maude Harry (my grandmother), who married my grandfather Arthur L. Wilcox in Idaho. They had four children. The baby of their family (born in 1924) is my dad, Wes.
If anyone has any information on Stephen Harry, I'd appreciate it, no matter how insignificant it seems. Thanks!
