Re: Harrymans of Carroll co, VA
The Maryland Harrymans descend from a John who first appeared on Maryland Tax Rolls in 1692.Found in Lib. 5, No.1, Folio 225-29, Taxables Northside Patapscoe 100.Where from and when he came is a deep mystery.Ethel Harryman in her book on Elijah claims he appeared in Maryland in 1661, quoting a land record on the conveyance of "Torrel's Neck."I find this record clouded as research in the Maryland Archives does not reveal and land transactions on "Torrel's Neck" until 1699 when James & Penelope Todd conveyed the land to John.Lib. H.W.#2, Fol. 268.
Interestingly, I found a 1665 record of a Josiah Cooper demanding land for transporting a John "Herriman."He would have been indentured for a period of years.See Lord Baltimore Land Grants, 1665.This would put John in the range of 40-50 yrs old by 1690 - still young enough to father a family.
