Re: Harryman-Brooks connection??
Hello Robert! We must be cousins! My grandfather was Gaylord Brooks Harryman married to Edith Purnell Morris Harryman. His parents were George and Elizabeth Harryman. He had brothers: Brooks Harryman, George Harryman, and nephews: Lindly Harryman and Chauncey Harryman (also known as Tiny).Elizabeth was a Brooks before marrying George....my great-grandparents.I am named after Elizabeth!Anyway, Chauncey Brooks was the first president of the B&O Railroad and started the Natl. Bank of Maryland. He was married to Marella Brooks (not sure of spelling). There was also a Minerva Brooks. This Chauncey was my great, great-grandfather.Any of this sound familiar? If interested, I can get my mother to fill me in on more details.Brooks is a family name that seems to be used in a lot of middle names in my family. Also, Rev. Phillips Brooks who wrote "O' Little Town of Bethlehem" is my great, great, great....uncle.The family also donated land to the city of Baltimore, MD which is now Druid Hill Park.Who are your parents? My grandfather, Gaylord, married Purnell who was a Hylton by her first marraige. He adopted her (3) daughters, Martha (my mother), June and Waltine.Well, to make a short story long........that is the connection between the Brooks and Harrymans.
