Hi Peter,I've gotten in touch with the Harry/i/man Genealogist Guru, Berkeley Henley in Maine. He concurs with me that the two brothers John and Leonard Harriman were the first to come to America in 1608 from Merry Olde England. They were Puritan's of religious faith.The first ancestor I have, found to use the Y spelling is John Culport Harryman in about 1760ish. My belief is the census takers spelled the name by sound.
