Hassenplug to Hassen

I have heard tales of some of some folks in my family whochanged their names to Hassen. Now that I think about it, I think that family was in Missouri. The story I was told was that the name change had anything to do with anti-German sentiment, but that some folks just got tired of spelling it all the time.To my knowledge, the ORIGINAL spelling is exactly as my name is spelled.
My knowledge is pretty sketchy, but I know that there were two brothers, William and Henry who came to the U.S. through Baltimore... around 1880, and both later moved west.Henry would have been my great grandfather.
My ancestors were/are in north Texas ... and the families in Missouri are the descendants of William.I don't know whether William himself settled there, however.
I don't know if any of this is helping you, but I can say that I'm pretty sure there were some Hassenpflugs who changed their names to Hassen.
