H. W. Hasten was my great grandfather. His name was Henry Washington Hasten. His wife's name was actually Pet Ritter. They are both buried in a private family cemetery in Lewisville, Texas called Ritter's cemetery. It is my understanding that H. W. and his brother came to Texas when H. W. was 21 years old. I do not know what his brother's name was. I was told that when they came to Texas that they had one sister who remained in Donathon (sp), Missouri. I think her name was Mary, but I am not sure about that. There was a time when I tried to find out information about her, but I never could. My grandfather (their son) was Jonathan Augustus Hasten. I know my grandfather also had a sister named Etta Hasten Emery. Jonathan (Jack) married Harriet Estella (Stella)Emery.Etta married Frederick Emery. (Fred was Harriet's brother. Brothers and sisters married brothers and sisters). I know that sounds a little confusing, but it gets worse. Jonathan and Harriet had several children. They had two sons who died when they were young. One was Clayton and the other one was Washington (Washie). I believe Clayton was a baby when he died and Washie was about 12 years old. I am not exactly sure where in the birth order that these two boys fall, but I do know they were some of the older children. My dad did not know why these two boys died. It is possible that it was TB because during that time it is my understanding that a lot of people died of TB. Other children include Ethel Hasten Talley, Stella Fay Hasten Anderson, Frederick Hasten, Olen Hasten (twin), Nolen Hasten (twin), and Mary Hasten Putnam. (All are deceased.) Olen Hasten was my father. Olen and Nolen were identical twins and they married sisters.I had one brother Eugene who is deceased and he had 3 children. My name is Brenda and I have one daughter, Courtney. Courtney is married but she does not have any children.
