Susanna Hatfield died 1890,Iowa Cherokee Blood

My GG GrandmotherSusanna Hatfield raised my Grandmother May Bele Willson born 1877 in Eden Township, Decatuer, County Iowa. My Grandmother told my mother before she died that she was part Cherokee and she didn't want her neighbors to know. Does any other Hatfield have any Cherokee blood? I have seen douments where different Hatfield's applied for roll money, but none have been awarded a roll number, it could have been just a money thing and the Government didn't want to pay.
