I'm not very expert on this. But the Family Finder test (FTDNA lab in Houston) tests for autosomal DNA. It does not test for Y-DNA or mtDNA. It seems like my DNA tends to go back to the Maryland area; not New England or tidewater Virginia. Although one of my threads does go back to tidewater Virginia and Oxfordshire, England. On my paternal side it goes back to Norway and, to a small extent, Germany. So any maternal colonial ancestry looks to be from around the MD, DE, and PA areas. But I also have a subscription to Ancestry.com to help with genealogy.
