Anderson Hatfield listed as a father to John Elkins

I am running into a problem. My great grandfather is John Elkins (father of Wayne Warner Elkins).He was born around the year 1882. He married 1.Belle Buchanan and 2. Verdie Harrison.

On the marriage certificate with Verdie Harrison, John listed his parents as Anderson Hatfield and Julie(a) Ann Elkins. It is left blank on his marriage certificate to Belle.

I would have dismissed this if it wasn't for all the connections we have with the Hatfield and Browning families. It seems my family line is deeply rooted in West Virginia. I can't find a birth certificate or anything else on Julie(a) or John.

My question is, does anyone have any information at all on this? Anything about a John Elkins or an Anderson Hatfield having a child that he didn't claim? I did find that Julia may have married someone named John Ellis. Not sure how reliable that is. So I think that if Anderson Hatfield was a father to John, it was done out of wedlock. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated!
