Martha Patsy Hawley - Sally (Sullivan) Hawley
I'm trying to research back with Hawley's.I've been able to go back to 1500's for Sally Sullivan but can't get past on her Dad's side.I've read that Sally married an "unnamed Hawley".I remember my Granny (Granddaughter of JD Hawley who is the son of Martha Patsy Hawley) talking about a Sid Hawley when she was really little. Granny was born in 1922.Dont know if she heard about him or saw him. He would have been her Great-great grandfather.I can't find him anywhere... so I'm thinking maybe that he was Sally's husband?Seems to fit but I'm thinking Sid was a nickname since they seem to like to give those out back in the day. Makes for a confusing time.
Sally, Martha and JD (along with a few other children of Martha's) were labeled "Mullato". Back then it meant non-white.I'm guessing b/c of her mom's strong heritage back to Ireland... if gave her the darker skin b/c of the spanish invasion in 1602 and the migration and mixes of spanish and irish gave a darker complexion. It's my guess anyway.
Martha worked for a John Adams and when she had her children, she sent them to live with her mom Sally. (Her first son William was fathered by Joe Hair) If anyone has information about John Adams who quit-claimed his property over to Martha "Patsy" Hawley who worked for him... that would be great! He is said to have fathered my G-G Grandfather JD Hawley.
Thanks so much!Hope this connects some of us here!
